The Healing Art of Reiki
The history of Reiki Natural Healing to date has been an oral account, which is passed on from teacher to student by word of mouth. The Reiki Sanskrit symbols are thought to be thousands of years old. They were rediscovered in Japan in the late 1800’s by Mikao Usui and, along with two Japanese symbols, are the foundation of the practice of the Usui System of Natural Healing. Usui Shiki Ryoho has been handed down through a lineage of Grand Masters for more than 100 years.
Reiki on Kauai
Reiki came to the Western World in 1936 when Hawayo Takata who was born on the Island of Kauai, in Hawaii went to Japan for surgery. There she found the Reiki Clinic of Chujiro Hayashi and after daily treatments for some weeks, her condition improved so that she did not need surgery. Having been touched deeply by the Reiki, she stayed in Japan learned how to practice it then returned home to Kauai with the Reiki in her hands. The Island of Kauai has the reputation of being “The Healing Island.” Mrs. Takata added to that when she started the first Reiki practice outside Japan in the town of Kapaa in October 1936.
Reiki is Practiced Worldwide
As late as 1980 only 22 Reiki Masters had been initiated to serve the Western World, today there are thousands. Reiki is being practiced by most all religions, people with no religion, and in most every country in the world. Today we honor the spiritual lineage of this practice those who have been protectors of the integrity of the practice. Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata Phyllis Lei Furumoto and our current lineage bearer Johannes Reindl.
